General Education and In-service Programs

Choose from Information Visits, Presentations, Self paced / Independent programs or Workshop.

Information Visits
    Coffee Carts
    Informal time to deliver coffee to staff and discuss donation topics and issues. Transplant recipients and or donor family members often take part in these programs.

    Health Fairs / Blood Drives
    Participate in booths and information tables at health fairs and blood donation drives.

    Mandatory Needs Day
    Participate in booths or information tables during hospital training programs.

    Mini-Mobile Presentations
    Present brief information on donation on units or in employee lounges.

    Open House
    DNA staff will be available in a designated area for staff to rotate through and express concerns, questions and issues.

    Post Donor Conferences
    Feedback mechanism for staff regarding donor activity.

Presentations
    Bio-Ethics
    Present and discuss ethical issues surrounding donation as a part of an inservice or Bio-Ethics Committee Meetings.

    CareMap
    Follow the process of caring for an organ donor. This is offered as an inservice or as a handout.

    Donor Family
    A donor family shares their donation experience.

    Donor Family Services
    Information on providing aftercare for donor families and helping them find the support they need. A review of Donor Network of Arizona’s services.

    Flow Charts
    A review of the organ, tissue and eye recovery processes.

    Inservices
    Scheduled time to review various or specific donation topics.

    Journal Updates
    A written or presented review of recent journal and media updates regarding donation.

    New/Continuing Employee Orientation
    Participate in orientation programs.

    Nurse/Resident Teaching Programs
    Particpate in teaching programs to educate students about the role of donation in the healthcare community.

    Physician Presentations / Staff Meetings
    Participate in physician education or staff meetings to present various or specific donation topics.

    Statistics
    Specific information is presented on your hospital’s referral and donation statistics. Statewide and national information is also provided.

    Transplant Recipients
    Hear from a person who has received and organ or tissue transplant about their experience and the difference it has made in their lives.

    Trends
    Discussion of recent changes in the donation and transplant community.

Self-Paced / Independent Programs
    Bathroom Journalism
    Create a brief flyer to educate staff on specific donation topics.

    Bulletin Boards/Display Cases
    Create displays on donation issues in designated space in hospital/units.

    CareMap
    Follow the process of caring for an organ donor. This is offered as an inservice or as a handout.

    Interactive Disks
    IBM and Mac compatible computer programs.

    Journal Updates
    A written or presented review of recent journal and media updates regarding donation.

    Posterboard
    Mobile teaching units to educate staff on donation trends / issues.

    Resource Manuals
    Resource notebook on unit with Donor Network of Arizona information, hospital policy and procedures, donation statistics, journal updates and general donation information.

    Self-Paced Learning Program
    Includes objectives, reading material and post test. Used frequently in orientation.

Workshop
    This 4 ½ hour workshop fulfills the requirement to become a “trained requester” as required by the Revised Arizona Anatomical Gift Act (1996) and the Federal Conditions of Participation in Medicare (1998). This program offers 4.5 CEUs through the Arizona Nurses Association.
