National Minority Donor Awareness Week

08/5/2015

National Minority Donor Awareness Week, celebrated Aug. 1-7, honors the generosity of multicultural donors and their families while also highlighting the importance of educating minority communities about the gift of donation. Donor Network of Arizona kicks off the week with the Done Vida Desayuno, a breakfast for Hispanic media partners and those touched by donation.

For Diego Terán, this week is of personal importance because at his young age, he is now part of the transplant waiting list.

In June 2014, Lupita took Diego to see a urologist after some health concerns, and the diagnosis they received was something they never expected – kidney failure.

After a 22-day stay at the hospital, Diego was sent home. He now undergoes dialysis every night for 10 hours, and will continue to need dialysis unless he receives a kidney transplant.
