Giving life through organ donation is a selfless and courageous decision for families at one of the most difficult times of their lives. Donate Life Month happens in April, but by becoming a registered organ donor, an act of generosity that has a profound impact, you can make a difference for patients in need no matter what month it may be. Just one family saying “yes” to donation can affect up to eight patients. Mayo Clinic is joining many other health care organizations in Arizona to make a difference. Sadly, 22 people die every day because not enough organs are available for transplant. The waiting list for a transplant grows every 10 minutes as another name is added. Embrace the Health Care for Hope campaign in Arizona and register to be an organ donor. More than 2.6 million people in Arizona have already said “YES” to the gift of life. But that is not enough to meet the significant needs. Being able to gift the gift of life provides a measure of comfort to grieving family members. It sends a message that their loved one’s gift saved and healed lives, and that in many ways, that life goes on. Register now, or reaffirm your wishes to be a donor, in the event such circumstances arise. And don’t forget to tell your family about your wishes.
