I worked for years to comfort and educate patients. I grew into a constant ebb and flow of mourning lost abilities and limited living and sometimes death. I began my journey with a patient that ended a different way through extraordinary circumstances. With the help of her daughter and a wonderful act social media found a kidney for my patient. Forever the powers of both social media and human giving changed a life into a brighter, freer journey that pays the way for more. Amy Donohue is a spirit to be reckoned with and she will lead an onslaught on ignorance and death. Kidney disease can have a much needed voice and lime light and more donors can step forward. She will produce a film to capture the power of organ donation and then further the cause by championing donors. Finally the power of social media can be harnessed in actualized lives saved. It’s a great day for great acts and social technologies! One day we can ask Mark Zuckerburg if he knew he’d save lives with Facebook!
Kidney disease is as harmful as diabetes and cardiovascular disease yet is a silent killer. Renal failure has the same mortality as stage 4?colon cancer but no sense of urgency or survivorship. Amy Donohue will change this climate! Kidney disease will be table talk!
I thank her for saving my patient and by doing so saving me a good deal of mourning for my patient and those to come.
