Communication Guidelines

You may be the one to initiate correspondence with recipients, or you may be thinking about responding to a card or letter you have already received. You may send a greeting card, a short note or a letter.

The following guidelines may help you decide what to say.

Communication Guidelines

  • Share information about yourself, your loved one and other family members. This might include: occupation, hobbies or interests and special things your loved one liked to do.
  • Include first names of yourself, your loved one and other family members and the state where you live.
  • Because we respect your privacy, we encourage you to be aware of the principles of confidentiality. When you are just starting to write to the recipients it is advisable to sign only your first name and avoid using last names, addresses, city names, phone numbers or names of hospitals or physicians. Sometimes too much information, especially at first, can overwhelm the person receiving the letter.
  • Include a separate sheet of paper with your full name, your loved one’s name and the date of donation.
