Excellent communication throughout the donation process is critical. Donor Network of Arizona (DNA) staff coordinate huddles with hospital staff prior to the introduction of the donation conversation to the family, and at other times as necessary throughout our collaboration. In addition to DNA staff, team members called to the huddle may include the bedside nurse, unit supervisor, operating room staff, attending physician, fellow, resident, respiratory therapist, chaplain and/or social worker.
Topics of discussion during the team huddle may include:
- Donation Opportunities
- Brain Death Determination
- Appropriate Timing of Discussions
- Family Dynamics, Legal Next-of-Kin
- Donor Designation Status
- Donor Management
- Organ Recovery
DNA utilizes a form to guide our pre-donation conversation huddle.
